Spring Projects -- Yes, it IS Spring Here!

3/11/08:
We ate our first home-grown orange off our own tree today!!!

We have bags full from our neighbors, but this is from the tiny tree we received from my sisters when we moved in here Christmas 2006! It was yummy! I'll have research way back into this Blog to see when the actual orange started. It's been at least 6 months! We had no idea how long it takes for oranges (or our lemons nor our avocados) to ripen! --- WHOA! I just looked: it was May 2007, 10 months ago!

Here are a few of the projects Rick has been working on:
  1. Making a rain barrel (never needed THAT in Michigan!)
  2. Buying, irrigating, and planting bamboo (never bought THAT in Michigan)
  3. Building a cabinet for our family room and his new big TV.
  4. And of course, multiple various "fix its" all around the house and yards!
Digging holes for bamboo and installing irrigation.
See the new road going in on the hills behind us? dang.

Me: planting, planting, planting. Got lots of new stuff from neighbors and sisters: new Mexican fan palms, birds of paradise, and a truck load of cactus and succulents! Put in some pansies, and, got my first daffodil to bloom! I miss all the daffodils I had in Michigan. Oh yeah, and I planted 3 macadamia nut trees a 3rd neighbor passed along. Apparently our yards were a macadamia tree orchard before this neighborhood of 14 homes was built in 2001.
Cactus galore! Neighbors giant 40 year old cactus fell. This is about 1/20th of it!

My classes on Renaissance Art & History are over for awhile, I'm going back to the gym a few days a week, and even took my first yoga class! (I took the "Silver Sneakers" class for Seniors -- dang, they all did better than me! Wait till NEXT week!)

Other fun things: Our next door neighbors went with us to the near-by wineries in Temecula. It was a gorgeous day, 74 and sunny, plus snow-capped mountains were in view.

Our neighbors across the street got two puppies which is lots of fun for everyone, except Goldie, who's feelings are hurt as she doesn't get ALL the attention now! (It's "Kodi" all over again!)
